Bye for now!

As much as I have no idea if anyone is really attached to my blog (it's still pretty young as far as blogs go), I feel like I should warn my faithful readers that I will be away from the interwebs starting now until mid october. It's time to escape our beach town and head north to where there are lots of these:

So try not to miss me too much! I will be back, and when I am I will be working to open up my etsy shop Parcel Mint as fast as I can. Enjoy your October beginnings!

Tiny Houses

I have never lived in a big house. We have always had small homes and while I was growing up I remember feeling really envious of my friends whose houses had stairs. I thought that made them so cool! But now I love the idea of small homes and I like to think that when I eventually own a home with a family it will be on the small side. Small homes house close families!
With that in mind, have you ever seen these tiny houses? I read about them somewhere a while ago and it seemed insane to me, but now that I think about it, it doesn't seem all that crazy. They have everything that you could need in a home, just smaller. I like the idea of living with less and of minimizing the environmental impact that comes along with a house.
Tiny houses! What do you think?
This one is called the "Weebee" (how cute is that?) and is made by a company called the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company

Bits & Pieces

Here is a little bit of my week and weekend in picture form. It was a week of high highs and low lows, but overall I have a new appreciation for the privilege to be on this earth with all of the people that I love so much. Give someone a big hug today and tell them what it is about them that makes you want to squeeze them. Our love and gratitude for each other is the most precious gift we can give.

1. Cacti at the McNeil casa.
2. A morning feast at Honey's. The granola waffle is magical! It's crunchy and fluffy and delicious.
3. Joey and I went on a very successful search for painted knobs.
4. Journal time while Joey does his music. And yes, that is a bowl of chocolate chips.
5. Some Parcel Mint goodies in the works. I finally found an ink that actually dries!
6. The fabric of one of my favorite dresses. This guy has been to Spain and back with me.

A Literary Gem

I have had this door (or is it a window?) pinned on my pinterest for a very long time, but every time I see it I love it. And this time it reminded me so much of the way the building is described in Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins. The mirror moon and stars look pretty magical and there is no way that the people who live behind them are not fun and interesting.

If you want to feel the way this picture looks for an extended period of time, read this book and I promise you will feel something.

The door. The book.

Bed [teepee] Envy

This might not be a bed in the traditional sense, but wouldn't you love to just crawl inside this beautiful teepee and take a glorious nap?! The crisp white linens, the textures, the blushes and oatmeal tones, have got me feeling some major bed envy.

This teepee dreamland can be found at a shop called Sukha Amsterdam. You can drool over more pictures of the shop interior here, at a blog called Vosgesparis

Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities that I have ever been to for a million different reasons, one of which is the gorgeous, simple, crisp style that you can see in so many homes and shops. One thing that really surprised me about Amsterdam was that the people live in these tall, narrow buildings with windows right on the sidewalk and you can literally look into a family's living room or kitchen as you stroll by and see them going about their daily lives. Almost none of them had curtains, or if they did they didn't bother to close them. It was so different from the guarded, closed-off attitudes about privacy and home life that I am used to here in the states.

And this store is no exception to the simple, airy, whimsical decor that I fell for. Clearly Sukha has been merchandized by someone with a great eye. This display makes me want to hop on a plane and go straight there right now! I'l take one of everything, please.

Go. Wear. Look.

Today, I am daydreaming of warm nights and beach bonfires. If you can, please squeeze one more of these into your summer. There is something so mesmerizing about watching a campfire. The colors and sparks and movement... it's better than tv!
So gather some friendlies together for a nighttime adventure and channel the moon in the most mysterious and pretty jewelry by Palomarie. Don't forget to look up and give the moon a howl! All the better to dance by.

Bits & Pieces

Since not every day or event seems "blog-worthy" and sometimes it's nice to just get a glimpse instead of an explanation, I invite you to have a look at what has been going on around these parts as of late. I plan to make sharing a habit and will be working on actively taking photos instead of half-heartedly snapping them with my phone. Enjoy!

The inspiration for this series of posts came from one of my favorite blogs, Bleubird. Her photos are always so beautiful and give such a nice glimpse of her family's daily happenings, and it doesn't hurt that they are all adorable and exceptionally cool --family dance parties, pet chickens, simple and funky home decor... need I say more?-- Have a look here and then jump on over to her bits + pieces for a look at how the pros do it.

1. Joey and I went to see The Short Eyes play a show in North Park. He is recording their first full-length album and we are all very excited! They are so fun to see live and have a really unique sound.
2. A very special sneak peek at some of what I am working on for my new Etsy shop, Parcel Mint.
3. More Parcel Mint materials, this time little gift tags for online orders.
4. My Joe brushing his teeth on the roof. My paralyzing fear of heights prevents me from joining the fun but I think I'm ok with that.
5. Sweater pile! I am stocking up for our trip to Washington. Excited doesn't even begin to describe the way I feel about the need to bundle up.
