A Literary Gem

I have had this door (or is it a window?) pinned on my pinterest for a very long time, but every time I see it I love it. And this time it reminded me so much of the way the building is described in Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins. The mirror moon and stars look pretty magical and there is no way that the people who live behind them are not fun and interesting.

If you want to feel the way this picture looks for an extended period of time, read this book and I promise you will feel something.

The door. The book.

Bed [teepee] Envy

This might not be a bed in the traditional sense, but wouldn't you love to just crawl inside this beautiful teepee and take a glorious nap?! The crisp white linens, the textures, the blushes and oatmeal tones, have got me feeling some major bed envy.

This teepee dreamland can be found at a shop called Sukha Amsterdam. You can drool over more pictures of the shop interior here, at a blog called Vosgesparis

Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities that I have ever been to for a million different reasons, one of which is the gorgeous, simple, crisp style that you can see in so many homes and shops. One thing that really surprised me about Amsterdam was that the people live in these tall, narrow buildings with windows right on the sidewalk and you can literally look into a family's living room or kitchen as you stroll by and see them going about their daily lives. Almost none of them had curtains, or if they did they didn't bother to close them. It was so different from the guarded, closed-off attitudes about privacy and home life that I am used to here in the states.

And this store is no exception to the simple, airy, whimsical decor that I fell for. Clearly Sukha has been merchandized by someone with a great eye. This display makes me want to hop on a plane and go straight there right now! I'l take one of everything, please.

Go. Wear. Look.

Today, I am daydreaming of warm nights and beach bonfires. If you can, please squeeze one more of these into your summer. There is something so mesmerizing about watching a campfire. The colors and sparks and movement... it's better than tv!
So gather some friendlies together for a nighttime adventure and channel the moon in the most mysterious and pretty jewelry by Palomarie. Don't forget to look up and give the moon a howl! All the better to dance by.

Bits & Pieces

Since not every day or event seems "blog-worthy" and sometimes it's nice to just get a glimpse instead of an explanation, I invite you to have a look at what has been going on around these parts as of late. I plan to make sharing a habit and will be working on actively taking photos instead of half-heartedly snapping them with my phone. Enjoy!

The inspiration for this series of posts came from one of my favorite blogs, Bleubird. Her photos are always so beautiful and give such a nice glimpse of her family's daily happenings, and it doesn't hurt that they are all adorable and exceptionally cool --family dance parties, pet chickens, simple and funky home decor... need I say more?-- Have a look here and then jump on over to her bits + pieces for a look at how the pros do it.

1. Joey and I went to see The Short Eyes play a show in North Park. He is recording their first full-length album and we are all very excited! They are so fun to see live and have a really unique sound.
2. A very special sneak peek at some of what I am working on for my new Etsy shop, Parcel Mint.
3. More Parcel Mint materials, this time little gift tags for online orders.
4. My Joe brushing his teeth on the roof. My paralyzing fear of heights prevents me from joining the fun but I think I'm ok with that.
5. Sweater pile! I am stocking up for our trip to Washington. Excited doesn't even begin to describe the way I feel about the need to bundle up.

Farm friends

Recently Addy and I paid a visit to our friend Lauren's family's house (even though she is currently living in China) so that we could snuggle their new kittens. After some serious kitten love, so serious in fact that I didn't take a single picture, we made our way into their urban-backyard-farm. Lauren's house was such a fun place to spend parts of our childhood and her numerous animals were always so amazing to me! It was really my only experience with farm animals, growing up in this little beach town where backyards are sacrificed for ocean views more often than not and dogs are about as exotic as pets get.
Just look at this little slice of country in the city!

All photos were taken by Addy or myself using my iPhone.

Go. Bring. Find.

Since my cabin crush has not gone away, and it probably won't anytime soon thanks to the endless stream of drool-worthy cabins to be oggled at Cabin Porn, I come to you again this week with a three-part daydream of a perfect escape.

This time, I urge you to find this little forest gem and enjoy a nap with your most delicious knit blanket. After you are rested and refreshed, hit the woods and search for the most beautiful moss formations you can find. I mean, seriously?! Those colors and textures and patterns? Mother Nature says you're welcome.

Parcel Mint // mail magic in progress

As I have mentioned in the 'About' section of this blog, I am in the process of opening a brand new shop on Etsy called Parcel Mint!! I have high hopes to open up sometime in mid-October, so be sure to keep an eye out.
Parcel Mint will be a paper gifts and goods shop, where I sell things like postcards, notebooks, prints, and cards that are all handmade and original, using a mix of new and found materials. I am so excited about this and have been really getting into every little detail, from the products and supplies I use to packaging and branding ideas.
Last night I spent the better part of my evening carving printing blocks, sewing paper, measuring, cutting, (doing math?!), and printing these beauties. They are far from finished, but their completed backsides are now ready to greet printed front-sides as soon as I finish up my designs.

Here they are all stamped and lined, looking like postcards!

Bed Envy

I inherited a blanket and bedding addiction from my mom. It really encompasses any and all textiles: blankets, duvets, tablecloths, pillows, curtains. But when it comes to bedding, we need help. So in honor of our shared weakness, I thought I would share some bed envy.

Look at this glorious slice of sleep heaven! That yellow! Imagine the dreams you would have.

unfortunately the original source is a mystery to me.

Go. Wear. Eat.

For our very first post together, I would like to share with you a little glimpse at the wanderlust that I have been feeling as of late. Our hot (but cloudy??) San Diego weather is seriously limiting the things that I can dress myself in these days. Mix that with my excitement over an impending trip up North and I have one serious craving for cozy.

So, I have gathered together a trifecta of relaxation, cozy, and decadence to inspire you and myself to push beyond this muggy day and focus on a sweet getaway.

If you are so lucky as to be planning an escape soon, might I suggest this little dreamland?

THANK YOU to the lovely Ez at Creature Comforts blog for the free download of these fancy photoshop brushes!
